TRW and IntelliObjects Provide Java Based Solution for Satellite Contact Management

TRW working with IntelliObjects Inc. in support of NASA’s Mission to Planet Earth Project developed a Java 2 Swing based application for supporting Earth Data Observing System (EDOS).

EDOS is a near real-time system for processing high and low rate data downloads from NASA environmental satellites like AM-1 and Aqua. The data received from these satellites is processed by EDOS to construct datasets which are used by other NASA systems that produce high resolution graphical representations of earth environmental information.

Critical to acquiring the data from the NASA satellites is the scheduling of computer systems which collect the satellite data as the NASA satellites fly over ground stations.

IntelliObjects in conjunction with TRW software engineers architected and developed a near real time Java Swing based application which displays as well as allows modifications to how computer systems should be allocated for supporting satellite contact operations. IntelliObjects Inc. was directly responsible for the assisting TRW in defining the architecture, coding, testing, and deployment of this critical NASA application.

Known as the Java Timeline this distributed 3 tier system uses RMI, JNI, JDBC, Java 2D, as well as Java Swing technologies to provide a highly graphical color coded approach to managing satellite contact sessions. NASA system operators are able to acquire additional detailed information about a specific event by clicking on any graphical symbol and are immediately given more detailed information.

IntelliObjects Inc. as a firm believer is preserving our environment takes great pride in working on this project. Another example of the IntelliObjects Inc. difference!
